About Me

My name is Andrew Flynn and I am an assistant professor in the Department of Geological Sciences at New Mexico State University. My research is rooted in understanding the deep-time interactions between climate, plant life, and Earth’s surface with a emphasis on field-based research. I am particularly interested in how terrestrial ecosystems responded to past periods of severe upheaval, such as mass extinctions and rapid climate change.

Prior to joining the faculty at New Mexico State University, I was a Peter Buck Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History (2024) and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Houston Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (2020-2023). I earned my doctorate in geosciences from Baylor University in 2020 and my undergraduate degree in geology from Miami University in 2011.
